As millions of goods
travel everyday from one place to another, the contribution of our Indian
railways in this is being very less being only 24% of the goods transported in
India. Thus, in order to counter this and to reduce the road traffic in our
country, the MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS proposed the establishment of DEDICATED
FREIGHT CORRIDOR CORPORATION OF INDIA LIMITED (DFCCIL).

INTRODUCTION
DEDICATED FREIGHT
CORRIDOR CORPORATION OF INDIA LIMITED (DFCCIL) is a corporation established by
Indian Railway for the construction of new rail networks connecting the four
quadrilaterals of our country, established on 30 OCTOBER,2006.
The main aim behind this is
to operate the freight trains and passengers trains on a separate rail lines
reducing the delay and increase in average speed of freight trains in India.
The efficiency of road
transport in time causes a great decline in rail transport, thereby decreasing
it from 86% in 1950-51 to 32% in 2012-13 which increases a great load over rail
transport. The total road network in four quadrilaterals is only 60% of total
rail network and carries a total burden of 74% of goods. It also increases
the rail load charges in India to 12%, making it highest among all the
countries.
Thus, the ministry of
railways decided to construct various rail corridors connecting the one
quadrilateral of the country to another, providing the transportation much more
easier and faster from rails.
Two corridors were under construction and four
corridors were proposed in 2018 which include:
1.
WESTERN DEDICATED FREIGHT CORRIDOR- it has total stretch of 1500KM
connecting DADRI in UTTAR PRADESH to JAWAGARLAL NEHRU PORT in
MUMBAI.
2. EASTERN DEDICATED FREIGHT CORRIDOR: it has total stretch of 1850KM
connecting SANHEWAL in LUDHIANA to KOLKATA in WEST BENGAL.

SPECIAL FEATURES
1.The load in each
train increases 500 tonnes to 1300 tonnes.
2.Maximum
speed of trains increases from 75km/hr to 100km/hr.
3.
Due to low traffic, the average speed of trains increases from 26km/hr to 70km/hr.
4. Length of each train increases from 700m to 1500m.
5.Each
train runs by its scheduled time table.
6.Double
stack container will run on electrified routes on western corridor. (important)
7.
Logistics parks will be created for Packaging, Retailing, Labeling and
Palletizing.
8.
The great reduction in co2 will occur yearly by totally electrified
routes and reduction in road transport.

TRACK LAYING PROCESS |
DEVELOPMENT
The manufacturing of
these rail lines is done by Specially mechanized tools and machines. Tracks are
laid for axle load of 25 tonnes and O.H.E. cable having the supply of 25KV.
These machines include the mechanized track laying which lays 1.5km track in
one day and a flash butt welding machine for proper weld of two joints.
The
estimated amount for construction is 81459 crores.
The whole inspection of the
works was carried out by the drone cameras.
